Us Gnomes Environment

I've been working on paintings for a film idea I had and pitched last year that is called Us Gnomes. Maybe one day I'll work on the film. Who knows. This was a fun painting. I haven't painted in a while.

Newest Project

Ok, So I'm back from MPC, London. Finishing school in this June. I really wanted to graduate so I came back. I'm currently working at the CTL at BYU. It's easy and on campus. Rob Allen is my boss and he is the coolest guy. The project we are currently working on is about a scenario where this girl is being stalked by a creepy guy and she goes to the BYU counciling center about it. It's being animated and everything. I've done alot of texturing and setting up shader controls on the characters. The character above is the first test I was doing of our lighting pipeline in mental ray. I put these 3 images to show what depth of field can do to either improve the image or change it some. If your not careful specs that you don't want to be blown out will change when you blur it too much. For example her specs in her eyes became too specular when I used too much blur. She looks a little stoned because of it in the first one. However you can see how blurring it works well for hiding textures of least importance in the back ground such as shown in the bottom image.

Starting At MPC

My adventures at MPC, VFX studio are about to begin soon. I am excited to move to London with my family and get the chance to work on Narnia 3 as a contract job. My title will be Lighting TD. I will be doing lighting and previsualization for shaders and textures in some of the scenes. I'm so stoked for the chance to do what I've always wanted to do. This is going to be amazing.

Figure_Drawing

Well, I feel it's about time to put up some more figure drawing that I've done. I feel that the thing that I enjoy to do the most in art is figure draw. I miss doing lots of it. I hope that one day I can find an industry job that will let me do lots of figure drawing while I continue the 3d side.

Dreamgiver

This is a guy I'm texturing for the film I'm working on. The top image is a study painting I did to help me figure out generally what i want the end result to be when I'm done texturing it in 3d. I am going to document everything I do so all will know how to do a 3d character with subsurface scattering.

Pens in a Jar

This Jar was the next 3d project I worked on for the Dreamgiver film. It was a headache! I don't know about you but Glass is CRAZY to pull off right. There is alot to worry about. At the same time, it was fun. My favorite was putting fingure prints on the pencils and marker. The last image shows the glass refracting the tiles in the back. It also reflects, and creates caustic effects. Spent less time on the shadows. Didn't care.

Baseball Texturing

These are more textured objects I did in Slim for the film. A baseball and a old rusty baseball card box. The baseball was most interesting as you can tell. I cut it up and took a picture of it, then used the texture for my UV's that I placed on my Baseball. It was fun.

Alrighty, here is the latest of a recent project that I have been working on. I Textured, Modeled, UVmapped, and created the shaders for these suckers in Mental Ray. And guess what this project is still not done. I still need to finish texturing his cloths and rigging his body and then I will animate him. The goal is to cover all basic aspecs of 3d. Also if you stay tooned by the end of this week I should put up most of my animations that I've done and my demo reel.

Modeling in 3d

Alrighty, so a weakness of mine has been modeling. (because it's so technical to me). I'm not much for a technical person but I am trying to be...somewhat. I modeled this character following the Learning Autodesk Maya 2009 tutorial. Next I'm going to rig it and maybe texture it. I haven't decided. Recently I've been doing animations too but have not put them on the blog because I will maybe later.

Textured Oil Barrels

Right now I'm starting to help with a 3d animated film with the Seniors. I had to texture some oil barrels for the scene. With This texture I used Slim in Renderman for the first time. It was hard at first like every new program you use but I'm starting to get a hang of it.

Texturing the Great Wall

During Christmas break, a friend, Scott and I decided to start a 3D project. This is some of the project. I won't tell you much else other than he's the modeler and I'm the texture artist. Right now I'm painting bricks on the Great wall. Lots of experimentation involved here, but I'm proud to say that I painted all the bricks you see. Why have I taken on this task. Because I like it.

priest in Danger

This is my painting final for Sam Neilsons class. It's been a good class I've learned alot. This is a story of a frog priest being robbed by two villans. One of them is an amature. His more experienced partner is annoyed by him.

I'm very proud of my first attempt at flash animation.
My boss wanted me to do this for a project at work.
My next goal is to work with symbols and rotate body parts.
